I would like some of those screaming "starvation" to explain to me how pulling a feeding tube is different than pulling a breathing tube. One provides air, one provides food, both are "artificial

Look at the title of this thread. How does it feel to make a fool of yourself in public?

Speak for yourself. If you'd actually read the article, not just its title, you would have read this occurred 7 years ago, where Terri was receiving therapy. Yet Terri's parents claim Michael prevented her from receiving therapy, state he refused to allow her to have a swallowing study. I can guarantee you, if Terri was being fed with a spoon, she had had a swallowing study (unless it was being done without the knowledge of the rehab facility -in which case it probably accounted for previous episodes of pneumonia).

Accounts of patients' abilities are frequently inflated by people close to them. I remember a woman we worked with that had severe knee and hip contractures - couldn't get either straighter than about a 75- to 90-degree angle (which is what we were working to decrease). One day we were met by family who told us the patient had walked with nursing that day. Since I know very few well people who can walk on bent knees and hips I asked how many nurses it had taken to "walk" Ms. Doe. The response was 4, and as Ms. Doe only weighed 85 pounds or so, the only people who got the exercise were the nurses.
