I would think the officers running the show over there are doing everything within their power to prevent loss of life. I'm sure it's tough, cowardly suicide and sniper attacks and the like are difficult to defend against. This may go on for a time yet, but that is what is meant by 'staying the course'. We will prevail.

You know what pi$$e$ me off is the constant pounding of 1 dead here 1 dead there nothing good EVER happens over there according to the media I love our troops and the great job they are doing but this media we have is tantamount to traitor terrorists.

We never hear whether any of the attackers are killed in these ambushes. Does that mean few of them are?

I've been wondering the same thing myself. It seems he showed up a few months ago and all he posts are "quagmire" stories. He must have somewhere around 60 threads started since the middle of August, and all but a couple are about soldier's deaths and other bad news. What's more, he doesn't bother to post to any other threads, he just posts (occasionally) to his own.

Maybe I'm just getting a little paranoid in my old age.

There is no news so bad, that someone doesn't want to be first with it. This IS a news forum, and one of the advantages is that stories are so quickly reported.

You got that right old bean...all those schools that are clean of tons of weapons actually have children in them now, bridges are rebuilt, electricity is up and running better than before. Ninety plus percent of the country is peaceful...some quagmire eh?

No, you're not getting paranoid. I'd like to hear him respond to that myself. But he never does.

I doubt that the families of the soldiers appreciate your trivialization of their sacrifice.

I by no means am trying to trivialize their sacrifices. I do, however, deplore the major media with their screaming headlines: One dead..., Three dead..., etc. in an attempt to smear the president, et al. I remember in the 60's the reports of hundreds killed at a time. In the 40's, it was thousands at a time. With the current death rate of US soldiers in Iraq, about one in 500 would be expected to die in a year, many of these just in accidents. Meanwhile, in the US, about one person per hundred will die in a year from all causes, which is about 8,000 per day. Admittedly, most of these are elderly, but the statistics from Iraq are not as grim as they would have us believe.

Well, for what it is worth, here are all his "quagmire" posts since he joined. Note that I did leave out 9 threads of his that did not involve the WoT. Note also that, with the exception of ONE thread, he hasn't posted to any thread other than his own. Yes, that is 64 quagmire threads.
