I can answer that, for me, sometimes the teacher would mention something not in the book. Also, taking notes helped reinforce the lessons for me. It also kept me focused on what was going on in class.

Take notes in college? Pffffft, I had a history prof who could’ve been a world class auctioneer at a livestock auction. It was impossible to take notes.

This was always my approach. I would transcribe the notes that night after reading the text and the in-class notes.

Cemented items in my mind.
