That was as true in 1960 as it is today, but for some reason the Democrat party hails the 1960 debates as glorious and thrilling and inspiring.

The Democrat Party (of which the NYT is merely one bureau) reeks of phoniness. Constantly.

People who heard the 1960 debates on the radio thought Nixon won the debate handily. But on T.V. it was the handsome JFK beating the jowly 5 o’clock shadow Nixon.
