God bless your grandma, but even the devout original Israelites - who killed idolaters - did not try to ban alcohol. Alcohol prohibition can work. But for it to work, we'd need to impose what it takes for drug prohibition to work in the countries that have it - the death penalty for distributors and a speedy mechanism for carrying out sentences or acquitting the condemned - perhaps no more than a 3-year appeals process after sentencing. Mao's Communist Party took it one step further, and imposed capital punishment on users.
