The Alabama law says they can marry under 14, if they permission of the parents.

Why would you be afraid to ask? The age of consent is a modern construct. And by modern, I mean late 19th century - delivered by the same folks who gave us alcohol prohibition. The traditional age of consent was more or less puberty, as reflected in traditions such as bar and bat mitzvahs and quinceaneras.

It doesn't matter. He's being judged by today's standards, not 1979's, and not Alabama's, for that matter.

Of course, the urgency to keep Moore out of the Senate has nothing to do with dating underage girls. Everyone can see that.

40 years ago it was 14. Only changed to 16 in 2003.
