Yes, there must have been “symptoms” to require the scan necessary to perform this evaluation and cranial surgery.

Not likely he'll be allowed to fly for a while - could be a longer term recovery period.

I notice the media is not very inquisitive - he's to “friendly” with them. Anyone else they'd be all over this.

Media double standard, alive and well. Remember when Senator Tim Johnson (D-South Dakota) had a major stroke about 10 years ago? Updates on his condition were harder to come by that reliable reporting on Soviet leaders during the days of the USSR. We were only told that Senator Johnson was recovering and would return to his office “soon.” Press couldn’t be bothered with the serious nature of his condition, or the fact he would incapacitated for months.

When RINO Mark Kirk (R-IL) had a stroke in 2012, there were plenty of leaks about his condition, and almost immediate speculation he might not be able to serve out his term. What a surprise. As for McCain, he’s the next best thing to a Democrat, so he gets the same “protected” status. Don’t expect any updates on his condition, though it’s a safe bet you won’t see Capt Queeg back on the hill for several months—at the outside.
