I still remember with much fondness election eve in 1984. I had just married that spring. My wife and I watched the 10 o'clock news to learn that Reagan's plane made a "fueling stop" in nearby Rochester, Minnesota to give one last speech before heading on to California to vote and await the returns.

She said to me, was that refueling stop really necessary? No, I told her, but it was a lot of fun.

We then went to bed and spent most of the evening making love, but not so much that we were unable to get up in the morning and go vote before I headed off to work.

After a great evening of watching joyous election returns, we retired early to continue what we were doing the previous night. I was really, really tired the next morning when it finally caught up with me.

Dad called early and said "Did you hear they caught both of those guys?" Still groggy, I had to ask "Both of which guys?" "Both of those guys who voted for Mondale," Dad laughed.

What a year 1984 was! New bride. Great president. Lots of sex.
