There are some reports that Steele is still affiliated with MI5, and that he is being hidden in a British government safe house. Also MI5 facilitated a meeting between Steele and the FBI. Russia says Steele never left the British Spy Agency.
Wow. Thanks.
What I think Steele ended up doing was dumping the average pay environment of the MI6, and getting some fake business scheme rigged up where they had information which they would share with the MI6, for a price.
MI6 then created contracts (worth a lot more than Steele would normally make as a insider), and they kept the Steele company on their payroll....making a great deal of money. I’d even take a guess that the CIA might have some contract with Steele as well.
The KGB in this case is probably right...in some way, Steele is still working for them, just in a different fashion. As for future work for MI6? No, I think the Steele brand-name at this point is pretty screwed up. He might have to go and return to some 007-retirement isle in the Pacific.
