It is totally naive not to think that Trump does not need their support. Ryan’s timing was perfect. Which is why Trump is meeting with him.
Ryan is completely tone deaf to the Republican voters, 2/3 of whom feel “betrayed” by Ryan and his ilk. Their primary concern is retaining control over the party. They are perfectly happy to see Hillary beat Trump. When they say they don’t support Hillary or Trump it means they support Hillary but don’t dare say so. Anyone who plays that game is a 5th columnist. Better to know them for what they are now than depend on them. The GOPe needs to make their choice and get on board, or they’re done one way or another.
