Jim Robinson has tried this twice (to get a truce between Cruz and Trump).

He’s been blown off both times.

The first time he tried it, I went along with him.

Now, I don’t believe I could do so. Trump is just too bad a person and too bad a candidate.

As for having Trump & Cruz on the same ticket:

Assume for the sake of argument that we don’t know whether Trump is a good person or a good candidate. Ditto for Cruz. Give them both the benefit of the doubt and keep an open mind for the time being.

But then, if Trump enlisted Cruz as his Veep choice, wouldn’t a rational voter conclude either (1) that every terrible word Trump said about Cruz was a lie, or (2) that Trump is lying now when he tells us that Cruz is qualified to be VP? Either Trump was lying in the past, or he’s lying now. How could a “good” person tell such blatant falsehoods?

Likewise, if Cruz should decide to join a ticket with Trump, wouldn’t it persuade the rational person either (1) that all the bad things Cruz said about Trump in the past were lies, or (2) that Cruz’s new fondness for Trump is totally insincere and unprincipled? Who could vote for a ticket that included such an unprincipled man?

In other words, we could have two apparent liars embracing one another and pretending that, after all, neither was a liar!

Such a situation would present a twisted pretzel of a logical dilemma, something that could make for an impossible electoral situation. In short, I think we’d better pray that it doesn’t happen.
