Cruz got 12% of the vote in the least religious state in the country, also the 5th most liberal state, with a massive 45% of the GOP votes coming from independents. Trump, a north east liberal SHOULD win New Hampshire.
Plus Cruz spent only $580K vs. $32M for Bush and $15M for Rubio and still beat those two.

For Trump supporters ... this is the best scenario, they will stand behind either candidate.
