He is vicariously serving as mule carrying the time clock. Cruz gives the Establishment time to consolidate all the various numbers of the rest of the field behind one Establishment pick, hoping the consolidated numbers are enough to tackle TRUMP’s numbers.
Timing is probably everything, the Establishment will dismantle Cruz right on time, then everybody else drops out save the Establishment pick. Cruz is a danged diversion that gives time to the ESTAB to pick their own mule, before Cruz goes down in New Hampshire.

Just watched his FL rally...the man is AMAZING! I have never seen anything like this - not a politician with a teleprompter, not a public speaker usually - it is incredible. He makes Obama - the renowned speaker - look like a sick joke. It was a stemwinder!
