I am starting to call them Summer Constitutionalists. They only like original intent when it suits their desires. As opposed to Winter Constitutionalists who stick to the original intent even if it is not what they want.

Picturesque and fitting that you liken it to seasons, makes me think of Ecclesiastes.

What do you suppose a time-travelling Founder would do? I think he would look at us and say, "Are you people crazy, dickering over 'is he a foreigner or is he one of us?' in the middle of this mess?"

On one side is a lifelong American, clearly not a foreigner in any way, well-versed in the Constitution, not to mention law, where he reached the peak of clerking for and then arguing before the Supreme Court, and a promoter of limited government by hewing to the Constitution, for all his adult life.

And on the other side is The Donald.

Life long after the age of four, if I recall correctly, and who only renounced his Canadian citizenship after he was 40 year old. His dedication to the Constitution is admirable and will serve him well when President Trump appoints him to the Supreme Court to replace one of the Liberals.

Actually, I think a time-traveling Founder, having been to war, suffered and seen its horror, and sacrificed almost all for this country, would say something along the lines: Words are wonderful, ideas can be heaven-sent, but it is the heart of man we must approach and change. I think they would ask, "What good is a full fledged, eloquent, written historical constitution if the people have fallen to sleep, if they have lost their heart and transposed their souls into lethargy or despair.

I think he would wage a new war to waken, inspire and move the people. then, I think, he would turn to the constitutional matters at hand.
