Finny, a Cruz supporter states differently! Finny: Thinking times are so desperate that mass deportations and more heavy-handed government are necessary (that is the tone, if not the actual words, that I hear from Trump), is a whole lot different than conservatism. Conservatism is seeking a conservative solution, like enforcing immigration and deportation laws that exist and halt unconstitutional "sanctuary city" policies, and drying up welfare programs that subsidize illegals while they're here. Trump is at best a moderate. Cruz is the conservative. I think Continuing to support foreigners on our welfare programs is really conservatism too. What is crueler? Not giving hungry people food or sending them back to their native countries? And wouldn't abortion be conservatism? A little upfront cost and no backend cost on entitlements. The only thing I agree with this Cruz supporter is to close Santuary cities, counties & states!

You sound very confused, about conservatism as well as about where Cruz stands on immigration.

I live on the front lines in So Cal. I am a fifth generation native of California from agricultural roots and will tell you straight out: illegal immigrants from Mexico have always been part of the landscape. ONLY in the past 15-20 years or so have they become a serious problem, as branches of law enforcement take "sanctuary" status and refuse to depart illegals when they find them, as minimum wage has gone up up up up up (a king's ransom to an unskilled young man from a cardboard box village in Mexico), and as government welfare/benefits/services for illegals has gone out the roof.

Trump's answer? More government force, more government intrusion, but in a way that smacks of retaliation for all those dirty rotten job-stealing Messicans.

The better solution is Cruz's solution -- steady, measured, conservative use of government enforcing laws that already exist
