West Jerusalem has been part of Israel since 1948 and is the capitol of Israel. Noting this in no way precludes having some of East Jerusalem belong to a Palestinian entity in the future. The US Consulate is in West Jerusalem, not East Jerusalem.

The US Consulate is in West Jerusalem, not East Jerusalem. I didn't say we had our consulate in East Jerusalem.
Currently, the United States has three diplomatic office facilities in Jerusalem: a consulate on Agron Road in West Jerusalem, a consular annex on Nablus Road in East Jerusalem and a new office annex in the neighborhood of Arnona, located on an area of "no man's land" between East and West Jerusalem, which opened in October 2010.
