From his speech and the AP story I think he is saying IF a deal can be made, both sides would necessarily have to meet with nothing from the past on the table.

They would have to meet with a clean slate and both would have to make sacrifices. He knows that Israel has already made sacrifices and he is not sure they would be willing to do that.

He said he would know within 6 months if a deal was possible or not.

He is not trying to force Israel into anything they would not agree with.

It is my belief that he wants what is best for Israel the same way he wants what is best for America.

This could cautiously augur well.

I think Trump realizes there are some people who won’t ever make deals. Because they won’t be friendly for love nor money. That’s why he isn’t saying, let’s make a deal with Mexico.

IF, big huge IF, wisdom can be brought to the table, the Islamic side could be brought to realize that if they don’t assent to the control of their rabid members, it’s all going to go to hell and none of them will like the results. There are gratuitous agitator problems on the Jewish side as well, but that’s far easier to deal with.
