My mom is on a fixed income and hubs and I are not well off.

Several years back she had some minor health problem. Not serious enough for the hospital but serious enough for a prescription.

She didn’t have health insurance and cares for my completely disabled father so it’s hard for her to get out of the house so I helped by turning in her paperwork at the welfare office so she could get Medicaid or whatever it is.

I saw a lot of Escalades, tattoos, weaves, perfect mani-pedis and the latest cellphones and bling of all sorts.

There are a lot of folks gaming the system.

Sometimes I wonder if all those stories I hear about people collecting in more than one state or using several identities is true.

The people who use other people’s identity are the ones who really make me mad. They are ruining people’s lives by stealing their places. Sometimes the victims of the ID thieves are arrested because the ID thieves used their ID when being arrested. All that kind of thing is extremely difficult to clear up. It costs a lot of time and money.

I have no sympathy at all for anyone who comes here illegally and steals someone’s identity to blend in.

Too bad for the kids that their parents made such lousy decisions.

Its akin to saying, “sure his dad robbed a bank but the family needs the money so they should keep it.” Since that would never happen we must conclude the bank has more rights than the person who’s identity was stolen.

its absolutely true. I know this from 20 years being an investigator and running background checks where I found that illegals had co-opted the applicant's SSN or otherr cases where I had to track someone down. There's another horrible consequence to the victim thatthe feds don't mention - when an illegal uses someone elses SSN for employment purposes and they end up not paying the proper amount of taxes, guess who the IRS hits up for the balance. The victim. I know of a case recently where the illegal hadn't paid $4,000 of back taxes and the IRS filed a lien against the rightful SSN holder and froze their bank accounts. The ictim had no clue what this was all about. If you've ever had to deal with the IRS you already what type of reception they got. Our records are correct; you're guilty; pay up or we take it all and file a lien against your home. They're worse than dealing with the gestapo. Its stil being worked out.

I hear you! We looked after Mom until her resources dwindled, then applied for a VA Pension to keep her living with a little dignity. When she finally needed full-time nursing home care, we navigated the Medicade maze to get her approved. She passed away two weeks after we filed and was finally approved another six weeks after that.

Along the way, we saw people who were obviously far better off financially gaming the system.
