Truly amazing how GOP establishment figures such as Graham and Jeb can openly diss the Republican base. I can’t imagine a Democrat doing that about Democratic voters. No wonder the GOP is such a failure as a party.
You make a good point; my theory is that people like Graham or McCain know they can get media face time and a pat on the top of their heads if they viciously attack conservative Republicans. Jeb Bush made the mistake of making this approach the cornerstone of his campaign, along with support for illegal immigration. Whatever consultant told him these were winning positions for the primaries was out of his mind; belittling 80 percent of the party and advocating positions that almost no one in the base wants but which the Chamber of Commerce pushes because it wants ever cheaper labor at the expense of the middle class ain’t going to work. The result: Mr. Bush is around 7 percent in the polls.
