To: Aetius; Principled
Thank you to bring this topic up again. Finally I did my own search and found that Ted Cruz's reason in this subject is consistent with Conservative principle as I have thought that it would be.

Watch the video. Ted Cruz mentioned about his father coming here with a student visa. After graduating, he started up a company and created jobs in this country.

Having a romantic, idealized vision of immigration is understandable for Cruz, but that doesn’t mean policy should be based in it. Yes, Cruz’ family came here and they have done great. They have embraced conservatism (except on immigration levels of course). But their story is not the typical one, at least when it comes to ideology and partisan preferences.

And that’s the point. Most Hispanics are natural democrats. The same is true of Asians, to a lesser extent. The same is true of Africans, Middle Easterners, and other Latin Americans. Mass legal immigration is almost inevitably going to bring in many more natural liberals than conservatives. The Cruz’ are the exceptions, not the rule.

The effects if this are clear. We can argue about the economics of immigration, but it’s clear how most in immigrant communities are going to vote.
