Otherwise Cruz is generally excellent.
"Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?"
I’ve seen Cruz’ liberal position on legal immigration mentioned once before in an article by a liberal, but generally I think you’re right. Most don’t know, and some of his supporters react angrily when it’s mentioned.
I’ve been called a liar on this site by some unhinged Cruz fans for pointing out his liberal views on legal immigration. That Cruz is on record as saying these things in the Senate, and that there are YouTube videos of him stating those positions didn’t faze them. And it wasn’t that they took the Bush-WSJ line and argued that unending mass legal immigration is good, they just seemed offended that anyone dared notice Cruz’ own words.
I still like Cruz. I think he’s good-great on most issues. I loved how he called out McConnell recently. I just hate that he’s so wrong on the one issue that has the ability to settle all other issues with its demography shaping power.
I just sent Ted another $300.00 tonight.
And I absolutely do not trust Trump. I trust no liberal.
Ha! Good point.
And it is why I so often bring up Cruz’ liberalism on legal immigration. It really is an issue of unrivaled significance when you consider how it impacts all other issues. To fight for conservative goals on most issues, yet support a policy that has and will continue shifting the nation towards the Left via its importation of democrats, is crazy.
True, but Trump adds value to Cruz in his spoiling attacks on the GOPe cabal.
That is true T, but it doesn't mean we should consider a liberal like Trump for the GOP nomination.
May 14, 2013
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) today presented an amendment to the Gang of Eight immigration bill that would improve our nation's legal immigration system by increasing high-skilled temporary worker visas, called H-1B visas, by 500 percent. The measure would effectively address the needs of our nation's high-skilled workforce by helping meet the growing demand for workers in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. It will also make block grants available to states to promote STEM education efforts and increase domestic STEM professionals. The committee voted against the amendment 4 to 14 with every Democrat voting against it on a party-line vote.
“I strongly support legal immigration. Legal immigration is a fundamental pillar of our nation's heritage, and I was pleased today to offer legislation that would have improved and expanded legal immigration by dramatically increasing the cap for high-tech temporary worker visas. This amendment would not only improve the current system, but would also encourage economic growth and create new jobs in America. There is currently a serious shortage of workers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math, yet every year we send thousands of high-tech graduate students back to their home countries to start businesses and create jobs. This makes no sense. I'm disappointed in the committee's vote to reject expanding high-tech immigration. Although the Gang of Eight's bill makes a modest step towards improving high-tech immigration, it does not go nearly far enough. There is no reason to arbitrarily cap high-tech visas at 110,000 when these jobs are going unfilled. We need economic growth here and now.”
Sen. Cruz's amendment would:
Immediately increase the H-1B cap by 500 percent from 65,000 to 325,000.
Help retain the high-skilled workers that are trained in the U.S. by allowing “dual intent.”
Create block grants for states to promote STEM education in their public schools by raising H-1B fees.
I don't believe Trump even wants to go that far. I believe he's only in this to clear a path for Cruz and to set conditions for better trade deals down the road. Whether that plays out or not, or whether he ever did get nominated, I would never vote for Trump. He's clearly a social liberal, as you stated. In the meantime, pop some corn and enjoy the show
It's Cruz or a great day of shooting at the range for me (hopefully both).
Accept no substitutes.
I will never vote for Trump, either. And we can only hope he is in it to help Cruz and not Hillary. Frankly, I don't trust him.
Thank you for that.
Cruz also said during the same subcommittee work (I apologize if it’s here and I missed it) that he want to double legal immigration in general. The number he gave for current levels was low (675,000 I think), but even taking his number, that means he wanted an additional 400,000+ increase outside of the 500% increase in H1Bs.
Time and future actions will tell. In the meantime, he is exposing the DC and media cartel for who they are. Hence the google search map phenom.
And I’m helping!
Seed money now - pay the “reaper’s fees” later...
GO CRUZ
So if immigrants (of any kind) are not given benefits (of any kind) then the worthless won’t want to come.
And don’t we want the doers? Those that contribute?
But we must dis-incentivize coming here for free shit.
Watch the video. Ted Cruz mentioned about his father coming here with a student visa. After graduating, he started up a company and created jobs in this country.
It’s largely about numbers. I don’t think you can have a million (or even more if Cruz has his way) immigrants per year, even if they are all legal, and it not be made up of more natural democrats than conservatives.
Having a romantic, idealized vision of immigration is understandable for Cruz, but that doesn’t mean policy should be based in it. Yes, Cruz’ family came here and they have done great. They have embraced conservatism (except on immigration levels of course). But their story is not the typical one, at least when it comes to ideology and partisan preferences.
And that’s the point. Most Hispanics are natural democrats. The same is true of Asians, to a lesser extent. The same is true of Africans, Middle Easterners, and other Latin Americans. Mass legal immigration is almost inevitably going to bring in many more natural liberals than conservatives. The Cruz’ are the exceptions, not the rule.
The effects if this are clear. We can argue about the economics of immigration, but it’s clear how most in immigrant communities are going to vote.
