Personally in combat? He was on the front lines with his troops in North Africa and Europe. Maybe he didn't fire a shot in anger at the enemy, but he was in a combat zone subject to being shot or shelled or bombed by the enemy.

I spent 20 months in a combat zone, ashore for 12 and offshore for 8. I got combat pay. I was rocketed by the enemy, but I never fired a shot at the enemy.

You are splitting hairs about Eisenhower never being in combat. He was a combat commander. He was in harm's way.

We’ll just have to have differing opinions. I liked Eisenhower a lot, but I’d never get him mixed up with George Patton, Chesty Puller, Doug McArthur or John Buford.
