And for many millions more their taxes would go up. How do you expect them to feel about it?
It’s not about feelings, it’s about making the tax system equitable. My feelings get hurt or I get PO’d often, just like anyone else.
The left is feelings based, minus logic. The current system is broke. So, yes, poor folks will get negative feelings over a flat tax, they would not vote for Carson. chances are the real poor would never vote for a Republican anyway as many tend to be on some democrat program and want to keep them in power.
Now eastforker brings up a national sales tax. I would be fully in favor of that if the income tax went completely away.
Besides the benefits eastforker mentioned, the illegals would also be paying taxes. Foreign tourists and employees would be paying taxes. A persons retirement funds (401K) would also be tax sheltered because it is not being spent. Any money saved would never get taxed until withdrawn. You could sell property at a huge profit, and not get half taken away. It would encourage savings and stock market investing which I think would be healthier for the economy and the banking system. People that get paid in cash under the table would be taxed when they spent it.
The benefits are endless which makes this is actually better than a flat income tax.
If the IRS was abolished they could not be used for political purposes like the current regime is doing. Another plus for a national sales tax.
I do not care which some comes about, just as long as it’s equitable. By the way, I’m with Cruz, but if Carson managed to get elected I would respect him.
