We see the game plan developing. They can't plausibly call him stupid - no one will agree with that - so he must be defined as smarmy, dangerous, radical, polarizing, and "a firebrand." Prepare to hear the word "firebrand" applied to Cruz about 10,000 times during the next twelve months.

They keep trying to compare him to Senator Joseph McCarthy (R-WI) but how many people today have any recollection of that era? Besides, McCarthy was proved correct after the fall of the Soviet Union.
