To: Veto!

Maybe it’s a local thing, but here in CA, most Vietnamese that I’ve known pronounce their names “N’wen”.

I’m speaking of 20 years ago, perhaps the good doc wanted to be called something easy to remember in the days before there were many Vietnamese around.

Pretty close, but in the vagueries of the Vietnamese language some would even say Nguyen Cao Ky couldn’t get it right, being from the South.

‘Been there twice. Once in 68-69 with Americal, and again in 2000 with my then twenty-something daughter.

Beautiful place. Beautiful language. Wonderful people...particularly in the South.

I’m in Orange County, and I believe they say “n-wen” to help us gringos put the spelling with the sounds.

I recall one telling me “wen” is the correct pronunciation.

Generally I like them.
