Sucks that you know so little about racing!
It takes about $5000 per event to even run a production hobby car in SCCA. To run in nationally publicised events it can be from $50,000 to the millions.
No racing would exist without sponsors.

Slightly off the track, but I caught a glimpse of a coming/existing/? movie featuring junk car racing where it looked like they had 50 cars on a side lined up against each other, and then running head on into the other guys.
Now that's racing! you might be able to enter that without a sponsor but that'd be about it!
