I think you hit it right on the nose about McCain. I’ve long felt that McCain was at a point where having “his turn” to run was more important than winning, and that his legacy mattered more to him than victory. Even Bob Dole fought harder than McCain.
I agree completely. It was “his turn” and he was going to take it. I don’t think he really wanted to win.
