Vanity: Resigned to Romney? No Way! It's Time for Real Conservatives to Organize
28 April 2012 | Yashcheritsiy

Posted on 04/28/2012 5:36:53 PM PDT by Yashcheritsiy

I posted this up in News/Activism because it is a call to activism, and therefore seemed to me to fit the bill.

This is a "caucus" thread - if you're a pro-Romney whiner, then go find another thread. This one is for conservatives who want to do something about the election besides hang our heads and timidly thump a tub for Mittens.

I've intended this thread to hang around for a while so that we can throw ideas back and forth and start trying to network, etc. If you're really interested in organizing for action, please feel free to join in. If you want to hang back and not get actively involved, well, feel free to join in or lurk too.

Thanks, Yashcheritsiy

Those guys are running independently anyway. Paul inserted himself in the Republican primary schedule just to get his message across.

So, can Paul beat Obama? He couldn't beat Romney either.

Looking to the future the RNC has to limit candidates to those who are not candidates in other parties, those who've never made donations to candidates of other parties, those who've never served in public office having been elected as a member of another party, or who have not accepted an appointed position by another party.

By my evaluation of the whole line up of Republican candidates this year there are 3 of them who would have been eligible to run under those simple rules.

They would have been Caine, Santorum and Gingrich.

I"d think we'd made our selection by now ~ you'll note also they're all three Conservative.

So, what to do now? I think we can take a page from the Mittbot handbook ~ it's called Change The Rules At The Last Minute.

That's just a broad proposal ~ no doubt there are folks out there with practical ideas regarding how we might do that ~ and that presumes we have any inroads with any of the party officials running the convention.

We should certainly work to defeat romney and hope for a brokered convention. Although frankly that no longer seems likely.

If, as seems likely, the GOP decides to commit suicide, then somehow or other we need to unite behind a third party candidate. Or, to be more hopeful, a new second party candidate, since the GOP is determined to dump any remaining shreds of morality and common sense and go the way of the Whigs.

How to do that, I don’t know. It certainly won’t be easy. We need some trustworthy leadership. The only person I can think of to do it would be Sarah Palin, whether as organizer or as candidate (I wish!).

In any case, the libertarians among us need to realize two things.

1. No way conservatives can possibly win without a solid union of social conservatives and libertarians.

2. Also, no way that a free Republic is even possible unless a majority are willing to discipline themselves in the right way—which means to obey the basic moral laws, have stable families, do away with stuff like abortion, and return to the values that made our country great in the first place.

If anyone thinks that freedom means every man for himself, and everytone do whatever he damn well likes, then we are cooked. It’s OK if a few people on the fringes act like that, but if a majority does, then as Hobbes long ago argued, dictatorship is inevitable. If you cannot choose to do the right thing freely, then the government will do it for you—and they will have very peculiar ideas what the right thing is, as we are seeing right now.

I agree. I might even suspect the Soros/Obama inflitrators of starting this thread for just such a Psych operation. A 3rd party vote is a vote for Obama.
Romney is the nominee, get over it.

The only way to win an election is to hold your base and peel off a faction from the other party.

Mitt starts off with a couple of real problems ~ he's given up the Republican party's Conservative base. The Democrat affiliated factions already have their boy ~ so why should they trade him in for more of the same?

To put it bluntly, Mitt can't win against this or any other Democrat whose able to hold the Democrat base together.

To put it bluntly, Mitt can't win against this or any other Democrat whose able to hold the Democrat base together.

Mitt's one advantage is that he's facing off against a bad President in a bad economy. If he was facing Bill Clinton in '96, I'd agree with you. I'm not ready to write of Romney's chances quite yet. Yes, he's going to lose conservative votes. The question remains is whether or not he'll be able to pick up the middle that voted for Obama and are now unhappy with him.

That Romney will lose is a given.

Better to use the time productively.

Those of us who are committed pro-life conservatives would never dream of voting for a pro-abortion candidate.

Those who are thoughtful conservatives will vote principle over party every time.

No, it’s people like you who put Romney is the lead. The liberal called Romney is just a lighter version on BHO.

So if we don’t support the liberal called Romney we are Sorros hacks? Is it possible for you to include a sarcasm tag, because you can’t possibly be serious.

This is a caucus thread. You are clearly not part of the caucus in question.

Thanks for the thread!

Don’t know that I have anything profound to add. Two points:

First, supporting good Congressional and Senatorial candidates seems to be a priority. Different ways to do that: Contributing directly to the candidate, contributing to a conservative PAC, or getting involved directly. The last method may not be the most efficient, but it can be the most interesting. I have personally (with a few friends) run ads in newspapers for a conservative candidate. (One paper, I’m assuming with a liberal perspective, wouldn’t run the ad.) After I retire in perhaps 3 or 4 years, I might try radio ads, billboards, and other things. You can run a decent ad in a small town newspaper for about $100. If I remember correctly, a block of about twenty radio spots can be had for between $1000 and $2000 (don’t quote me on the price; going from vague memories). Seems like a billboard ran $500 to $1500. (Once again, don’t quote me. Very vague memories.) Other methods are available as well.

Second, I won’t be voting for either Romney or Obama. For a social conservative, neither seems to be an option; and giving the GOP-e reason to think that they have a lock on our vote regardless of the nominee will only guarantee increasingly liberal candidates in the future. I could say a lot, lot more, but perhaps you get the picture.

Well then it will be a liberal R against a liberal D. No choice at all.
