I work 9+ hours a day, and I’ve been doing it for 5 months. it’s not easy. Sometimes it just downright sucks. But then I look at the gas prices and I do simple math: I used to pay $40 a week on gas. Times 5 months, that’s $800 or more that I haven’t spent on gas. Plus the $350 for Insurance, and $90 in oil changes that I didn’t do, that’s well over $1000 that I got to save, rather than spending. My dad was right. A car is a hole in the road into which you throw money. A car free life is not for everyone. Hell, I miss it sometimes. Check out the Austin, Texas airport sometime on google maps. I live in the area. Find the nearest grocery store. It’s the HEB on Riverside and Pleasant Valley. Takes an hour to get there by bus, or 45 minute by bicycle. I get a lot of reading done, or playing with my cell phone, but it’s a sucky existence. Still.. cars are expensive, so it goes either way.
