While former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney take aim at each other, Texas Gov. Rick Perry is hoping to get in on the action with an ad that targets both rivals for supporting individual health-care mandates.
Trying to claw his way back into the top-tier of the GOP presidential race with only three weeeks to the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses, Perry ties his rivals to President Obama in the new ad and the big government liberals.
We dont want government-mandated health-care, the narrator said. Yet, Newt Gingrich supports it, and Mitt Romney, he put it into law in Massachusetts.
The ad ends with President Obama signing his health-care law and concludes with Perry saying, I wont let the big government liberals ruin this country.

Rick Perry snuck over to my house at night, TP’d all the trees, built a superhighway through my garage, shaved my cats and shot up my coyote with Gardasil.
Well, the coyote was just got lucky, last time it was bullets. :)
Thank you both for sharing your insights!
” Although Perry was a brand new Governor (August 2001) at the time he gave this speech, his vision and foresight exhibited Presidential qualities.
And although I know you would never do such a thing, Ive always found it fascinating that his detractors will cherry pick this speech and use lines from it, taken out of context, to disparage the Governor.”
EXCUUUUUUUUUUUUUSE ME???
this whole forum is full of exactly that
any one of these gop runners and even their pets are better than obama, but as soon as more that two posters express that about their pick, the attackers jump in with “ cherry picked cuts of something they said years ago “
I don’t care which gop gets the nod, I will push them to the finish line
Gordon said. I think the 2010 Esquire interview with Newts second ex-wife and former mistress was very troubling, he said.
Find it more troubling that a pastor reads and believes the liberal left Esquire.
Betting on Rick Perry - a winner in a GOP year, with no need in the world to win liberal approval ..IT WILL BE THE JOBS ISSUEand Texass record in creating themthat will define Rick Perrys presidential run. Since he became governor in 2001, the U.S. as a whole has had a net loss of private-sector jobs, while Texaswhich has only 8 percent of the nations populationhas had a net gain of 825,000 jobs.
Richard Fisher, president of the Dallas Federal Reserve Board, told me that if you look at the number of jobs created since the recession technically ended in June 2009, Texas has accounted for 48 percent of net new jobs created in the U.S.
Fisher also disparages claims that the jobs are all low-paying jobs at McDonalds or Walmart, paying the minimum wage, or that they were primarily caused by the oil and natural gas boom. According to Tom Pauken of the Texas Work Force Commission, the annual median wage in Texas in 2010 for all occupations was $31,500 a year, only 7 percent below the national average. That difference is easily explained by the fact that Texas has a younger workforce than most states and a higher percentage of workers in lower-pay agriculture jobs near the border with Mexico. [ CW: Cost of living in Texas is lower than many other states; Texas has no state income tax; Texas is a right to work state.]
As for where the job growth has been, three sectors of the economy have grown faster than the energy sector, which alone added 40,500 net new jobs in 2010. Last year, Texas added 57,900 new jobs in trade, transportation, and utilities; a total of 53,400 jobs in professional and business services; and 44,900 net new jobs in the hospitality industry.
For each of the past seven years, CEOs polled by Chief Executive magazine have rated Texas first in the nation for economic development climate and job growth. What is the secret of Texass success? Rick Perry isnt shy about his answer. Its all about four points, he told me. First, dont spend all the money. Keep the taxes low and under control. Have regulations that are fair and predictable so business owners know what to expect from one quarter to the next. And reform the legal system so that frivolous lawsuits dont paralyze employers who are trying to create real wealth.
If there is on issue which Perry has made a personal crusade, it is lawsuit reform. Working with the legislature, he has helped pass curbs on frivolous lawsuits, implemented a first-in-the-nation system under which loser pays all court costs in many lawsuits, and reformed medical malpractice law.
Dick Weekley, the co-founder of Texans for Lawsuit Reform, says Perry showed genuine political courage in resisting calls for watered-down reforms that wouldnt have addressed the core problem. He recalls that in 2002 Perry vetoed a bill strongly supported by doctors that would have required them to prompt payment from health maintenance organizations. In the eyes of the tort reform advocates, the bill was a Trojan Horse compromise negotiated between doctors and trial lawyers. There was a huge response from physicians [against the veto], Kim Ross, the former top lobbyist for the Texas Medical Association, said. TMA went so far as to endorse Tony Sanchez, Perrys millionaire Democratic opponent in the 2002 election. Perry sent a signal that he wanted real reform and would stand his ground, Weekley told me. Soon the medical lobbyists playing footsie with the trial lawyers were gone and the obstacles to real reform started falling. ..

AND now the TMA is endorsing Gov. Rick Perry. They understand now what he was doing would HELP them.
Those PESKY census employees making temp big #s.
Given that the Texas economy has grown so much and private sector jobs have grown so much, that doesn't strike me as an unsustainable growth in the public sector.
But, just in case you're really worried about it, you can lay your fears to rest because in the last year the Texas public sector has shrunk by 26,000 jobs. In the last 12 months, Texas lost 31,300 federal employees, trimmed 3,800 state jobs, and increased local government jobs by 8,400 jobs.
(To be fair, this was partially driven by the role Texas employees played in the census, which inflated federal job numbers this time last year. Since the census numbers stabilized, federal employment has been at about break-even.) Source .

Misfire: Romney Ad Targets Rick Perry's Jobs Record "I think it's safe to say the Romney campaign is going for the kill with its latest attack on Rick Perry. The former Massachusetts Governor has already gotten a fair amount of mileage out of attacking his Texan rival from the left on Social Security, and from the right on immigration, but this new spot strikes at the heart of the Perry campaign's raison detre -- jobs, jobs, jobs:
The Facts --Mitt Romney's political ad
[snip]
The spot's most striking image is a tumbleweed blowing along a deserted Texas highway. That's rich. It's intended to create the impression that Rick Perry's Texas is something of a depressed ghost town. Nothing could be further from the truth. Since the recession began, desperate job seekers have flocked to Texas at a clip of roughly 1,000 people per day. And they're finding work, too. Despite a huge population influx and a bruising national recession, Texas' unemployment rate remains below the national average. How remarkable has the Lone Star State's economic performance been? Read this Political Math analysis (written by a self-professed non Perry supporter), and marvel. One telling data point:
No more than forcing babies to get Hepatitis B shots, tetanus, pertussis, diphtheria, HIB, polio, and Strep shots.
And the meningitis vaccine.

We lose the “third leg” of conservative coalitions: the social conservatives.
Serial adultery is the biggest flaw and “newters” our fight for traditional marriage. Serial monogamy weakens the argument for one man/ one woman, but repeated adultery just makes the homosexuals’ point that straight people haven’t been serious about what marriage is, so why should they.
And whatever happened last Friday with the ABC reporter http://www.catholicculture.org/news/headlines/index.cfm?storyid=12576 shows that Newt doesn’t understand why he should be pro-life.
SF, look up the Frew decision on Medicaid funding in Texas.

We were cursed with William Wayne Justice, among other liberal Federal Judges.
BTW, a “border resident” is most likely a citizen of Texas.
Telemedicine is still useful, but less necessary since Texas passed sweeping Tort reform.
I guess forcing little girls to get the HPV vaccine isnt a healthcare mandate in Perrys mind.
I see that you are still using the classic Goebbels propaganda technique to further ridicule yourself.
It has been debunked so many times, that you must either be a troglodyte hermetically sealed in a cave distant from civilization, retarded, or hang out with friends who are so stupid and easily fooled that you mistakenly extrapolate this phenomena to a thinking and rational audience.
Secondly, lets compare your insipid caricature of the Guardasil issue to any similar issues of the present crop of candidates who might have had any political influence.
How would Guardascam compare to Romneycare in its scope, depth and comprehension? Lightyears apart. Then look at the current front-runner's sympathies to socialism in the form of healthcare, welfare and the environment. Newt is, as Bachmann phrased it a "Frugal Socialist" who supports government mandated healthcare (just in a slightly different form managed by better technocrats), had no problem with implementing a global carbon tax and other Gaia worshipping rituals and sacraments - again, somewhat different from the Neoluddite Marxists in that it is managed by better technocrats.
Cain is out, apparently between the bimbo eruptions we couldn't get beyond 9-9-9 and his inability to identify isolated unknown locations like Libya. So we don't know if he had some Guardasil-like government mandates in mind.
That leaves us with Bachmann, who, like you, must lie about Perry's involvement in the matter, doubling down on it by actually accusing the Governor, during a nationally televised event, of felony bribery and corruption without the inconvenience of actually presenting any evidence. She too has this remarkable blindspot where she can see in perfect clarity in her House of Mirrors this distorted view of Perry, yet is completely blind to Romney's medical-care disaster.
For laughs, go ask Bachmann again about Perry's involvement with Guardasil - I lay odds you two now differ on the accusation - she has matured and has accepted correction - you, apparently, are invincibly ignorant and find pleasure in biting ankles.
For the record, I would gladly, and without reservation take any of the candidates in the GOP over the monster we presently have ruling. I believe that Perry, flawed as he may appear, is the best in this current crop of candidates, though the prospects for a Ron Paul presidency would ultimately be the most entertaining, if not violent wild ride as DC would go into a four year gridlock and the Progressives would go absolutely insane. I love Bachmann's spirit and pretty much all of her stated positions, but from a practical standpoint, I don't see how the cabinet would be composed or how it would function as she wants it in DC. Perry's bootprint is all over Texas, like it or hate it, but Perry has well proven that he is a political power and influence - which is what we desperately need in this time of crisis.
Very good point. What DOES supporting Newt do to the Sanctity of Marriage argument? We pretty much surrender that entire issue. Is Newt worth it?
The "conservative Republican base" is criminally insane if they think Mitt and Newt are anything more than two sides of the same coin.
And that includes you, JimRob, as much as I respect your activism!
Newt can't stay married or be faithful to a wife, he has at one time embraced every good conservative or horrible liberal idea out there, and he has grossly enriched himself through 30 years as a consumate Washington establishment insider, a transformation exemplified by his millions in lobbying fees and endorsement of liberal extremist Dede Scozzafava.
Mitt is a good family man, born on 3rd base as one of the moneyed elite but took advantage of it by making his money honestly in the private sector, and embraces whatever political ideas he believes will help him realize his father's dream of becoming president.
Mitt is an opportunist, but Newt has become the epitome of Washington establishment corruption.
I've often said I'd never vote for Mitt Romney, and I don't know if I ever could as a lesser-of-evils choice, but Newt exemplifies what I'm fighting against, the rotten core of the GOP.
No it doesn't. It does point to a flaw in his character, but as a politician he has always been good on the social issues. What do we care what a bunch of deviants think.
...Newt doesnt understand why he should be pro-life.
You are right, with his stupid implantation argument he would open the door for all kinds of evil. However, he has not proposed anything along those lines and I think he's smart enough to back away from his thinking. We will see. If he sticks to that line of thinking "it's not alive until it is implanted" he can quickly fall into that Romney classification.
I think the greatest weakness we face if Gingrich is the nominee is he is the stereotypical DC insider that obama will claim he's fighting. Gingrich made millions lobbying/consulting for businesses and had the audacity to spend some of that money on his wife at Tiffany's. I don't see Gingrich losing social conservatives his record is pretty good. Also, Gingrich might pick up more of the RC vote because of his conversion and this could be enough to win a few liberal leaning states.
LOL! You left out their pets' fleas! :)
Perhaps I could have chosen a softer term, but, you may have noticed that Jim is participating in this thread and I didn’t want him to be depressed by seeing what some people choose to post on his site.
I was trying to be merciful as I know you people have suffered.
