Everybody who earns income should pay some income tax - everybody!

There are some forms of retirement that are treated as income, check out qualified
and non-qualified retirement plans. Should those incomes be taxed?

What do you consider earned income? A soldier returning without arms and legs will
receive disability payments, should it be taxed? How about charity contributions to
those wounded soldiers, is that taxable?

Thanks for this thread. Found a transcript on NPR of an interview with Cain, talking about 9-9-9. I was especially interested in empowerment zones:

Now, the other thing that I plan to do, which I have not talked about yet, is to create empowerment zones.

This is an idea of the (unintelligible) that didn’t go very far because of the complexity of the tax code.

One of the other big advantages of my 999 plan is it makes it fairly easy for us to identify empowerment zones, and there again you’re going to be doing something that’s going to hit the black community a lot more than it will the general population.
