OK, then, we’re doomed because we have reached the point where the “takers” outnumber the “makers”? So, just what do you propose? Let’s nominate candidates who promise to “take more from the makers and give it the takers”.

Wasn’t my point.

Point was you can get someone to agree to a tax at a certain level that most people would tolerate, but you KNOW government will just raise it.

Taxes are about control. Government control over the individual and over business. These people are playing with fiat money they can make out of thin air. They don’t need to tax people, former Fed Reserve members have said the tax code is just punitive today.

So, just what do you propose?

I'll ask again: Would you vote for a candidate who promised to double your taxes? Yes or no? If your answer is no, then why shouldn't everyone else be as smart as you. If your answer is yes, then you'll love 4 more years of Obama.

Before long, the entire income tax system, with all its arcane amendments and exceptions, would be back, just as before.

***

But we would get to enjoy 15-20 years of the after effects of reaching around for the reset button.

The 999 plan does not double anyone’s taxes except those who use Ron Paul math.

I did the math here. Tell me exactly where I'm wrong.

Everybody who earns income should pay some income tax - everybody!

There are some forms of retirement that are treated as income, check out qualified
and non-qualified retirement plans. Should those incomes be taxed?

What do you consider earned income? A soldier returning without arms and legs will
receive disability payments, should it be taxed? How about charity contributions to
those wounded soldiers, is that taxable?

Thanks for this thread. Found a transcript on NPR of an interview with Cain, talking about 9-9-9. I was especially interested in empowerment zones:

Now, the other thing that I plan to do, which I have not talked about yet, is to create empowerment zones.

This is an idea of the (unintelligible) that didn’t go very far because of the complexity of the tax code.

One of the other big advantages of my 999 plan is it makes it fairly easy for us to identify empowerment zones, and there again you’re going to be doing something that’s going to hit the black community a lot more than it will the general population.
