In case you have not been paying attention, Oil is 2-5X per barrel what it was in 2000.

So YOU have been paying the increase to keep Texas budget in balance. More oil $$$ equal more Austin can spend.

Do you want a government that spends all it gets? You can’t run the U.S. this way even though Texas is a net exporter, the U.S. is a big net importer.

You can build paper airplanes that fly, but it does not scale up to a 727.

This lack of basic economic knowledge is what is killing our country.

You can’t spend your way into success.

What happens when/if oil crashes to 20$ Either Massive cuts must be made or budget deficits. Of course by that time, Silck Rick will be LONG GONE from Texas.

I knew this was coming and I predict this will be a serious piece of ammo for Palin. I heard he spent our rainy day fund over the next few years that is supposed to be for things like a EMP or Nuke attack...oh well.

I dunno, you would have to ask Sarah Palin about that. She gave everything away in her state.

So Perry sets the price of oil? Really?

I don’t like Perry but your arguments are pathetic.

Nothing bad at all happens. The state would have increased revenue from gasoline taxes as consumption would go through the roof. Gasoline taxes stay the same no matter the cost of a gallon

Oil is a global market, Texas doesn’t set the price. So even if they benefitted from an increase at least it’s because they are willing to produce oil instead of being like some other states that won’t.

You don’t know much about Texas do you? Texans have a different mentality. The Texas depression of the 80’s when oil hit 16 bucks a barrel was an interesting study of the Texas mindset. Texans hibernated during the dry spell. Some even got down to their last million. (running joke) Retail stores became museums.
The State survived and so did the people. Then things started to turn around.
Now we pay the same for gas that the rest of the country does, but the drought is driving food prices thru the roof.
I only buy local or united states grown products so that doesn’t help.

The point is that Texans learned from the 80’s oil disaster to make plans for rainy days.
Perry has done a great job in his stewardship of Texas.
I have no doubt that he will do the same for America.

Ask yourself do you want a Captain of a ship that has hit raging seas that says keep all of the sails at full mast.
Or a Captain that says lower the sails, batten down the hatches and start bailing.
