Some of the "facts" I've seen posted here came straight from the swamp dwellers over at DU,and from a Progressive Democrat named Jesse Gordon from Cambridge, MA.
I have no idea why Freepers would believe "facts" about Perry or anyone from someone who thinks the Democratic Party needs to move further left. It's insane.
Thank you for this bit of detail. I noticed on this site that the budget number of $180+ billion is for both state & local spending.
This whole post is bogus it seems. According to this site:
http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/texas_state_spending.html
Texas “state” spending went up from 44B to 77B. And, most recent budget cycle, it actually was cut from 80+B to 77B.
Well you sure like to use the disinformation used by the leftists, so what does that say about you?
I sure as hell wont trust any candidate you are for.
Oh, I did learn from last time, or was proven right over it. 2008 was what happens when the GOP fails to run an actual, serious first-tier Conservative in the primary or general. What did you learn from it ? (Or more to the point, whom did you support in that primary ? Slick Willard ?).
You mean like community organizers?
I am not a Romney backer.Maybe, but you are clearly far from honest. Your posting here exposes you to great scrutiny. Your honesty and integrity are very much on public display.
If I don’t like RINOs, why would I like Romney and RomneyCare?
I want a conservative. not a “machine” candidate like Dole or McCain.
I prefer someone who has never held office (a businessman/woman).
In fact, Rick Sanatelli is who I would like to see for VP.
As for the head of the ticket, I am still hoping we get someone to throw their hat in the ring. Other than that, I lean Bachman or Palin, in that order.
I prefer someone who has never held office (a businessman/woman).So along with not being honest you have no connection to reality. Very sad.
Are you looking for excuses or the answer (the truth).
--------------------------------------
Just looking for an answer to my simple question which, after mentioning cookies, encouraging research, etc etc you have failed to answer.
You question sounds like what happens when little billy gets caught with his hands in the cookie jar. Yesterday Susie stole a cookie.
--------------------------------------
The question is not what others have done, it is what is right to do.
--------------------------------------
Do all state budgets increase from the start of an administration to the end? If they all do then it becomes a question of what is normal vs what is extreme and the only way to do that is to compare to other states and previous candidates that got support from conservatives. Its easy to say 6'4" is tall....but not when you are talking about the NBA.
I ask again, did the budget of California under Reagan increase less, more, or much more than Texas under Perry. If it was more or much more under Reagan, then I don't see how you can use it as an argument to say Perry is not worthy of being the nominee unless you also feel Reagan should not have been the nominee.
--------------------------------------
Is it right to run up state spending as a percent of the states GDP? At some point, it is unsustainable. The politicians are just playing last man holding the bag.
--------------------------------------
Its up to the people of that state to decide. I am personally opposed and agree about it being unsustainable. I'm just trying to determine if what Perry did is out of the ordinary for candidates that conservatives have supported in the past.
--------------------------------------
Unfortunately the electorate are easily fooled and dont check the facts vs what the candidates SAY.
--------------------------------------
Agreed, they can read something out of context and easily get the wrong idea.
--------------------------------------
So no matter what I or the candidates say, do your homework.....
--------------------------------------
I did. Under Reagan the California budget increased 177%. Makes Perry look like an amateur. I'm sure there were reasons for both, and more to the story which I hope others will help fill me in on....but if you are simply going to dismiss someone for the percentage in which spending went up...then Reagan should have gotten the boot faster than some are trying to do to Perry.
--------------------------------------
If you want to vote for a big government guy, go ahead. Just dont post on here that he is a small government guy.
--------------------------------------
I didn't post that Perry is small government... I just asked a simple question.
Let me know when it actually happens, then we can debate it.
Conservatives don't keep RINO Governors or Presidents in line.
Bull crap, when we get some more true TP conservatives in the House and Senate we'll have the influence no matter who is POTUS.
If the spineless RINOS would have listened to the mandate in November, we wouldn't be having this discussion....which is my entire point.
We need more TP members in the House and Senate to guard against a RINO POTUS.
You know what I see there? A Debt-to-GDP ratio GOING BACKWARDS. Virtually unheard of!
So is California’s and New York’s. How long will that last?
Pardon, it was a 122% increase under Reagan- not 177%.
Texas has seen its Debt to GDP ratio drop under Perry even now. It was almost 23% a few years ago, now it's 18% and still dropping.
Watch the debt clock for Texas. Spending is dropping, debt is dropping, debt to gdp is dropping. Revenues and GDP are increasing.
Texas S&P credit rating increased in part because it still has money in a rainy day fund, the state economy is growing despite Obamanomics and budgets are under control.
State population grew almost 21% in those 10 years which has some effect on those budget numbers you gave.
From 2000 ($44.2b) vs 2010 ($80.4b) budget numbers, the difference is accounted primarily by population + inflation alone but, no, not entirely.
A $80.4 billion budget is 6.8% of TX 2010 GDP.
How's that compare for a state the size & population of Texas? Well, CA's budget is almost 33% larger and around 9% of state GDP.
Despite the alarmist look of the numbers, spending's under control in Texas even though it rose about 1 point in 10 years.
If I factor in inflation over 10 years, population increases, Katrina refugees and illegal aliens, I’d say he did pretty well.
Obama and Obama supporters make the same excuses.
The difference is somewhere around an order of magnitude.
