Bill O'Reilly: Can the GOP save Obama?
The North County Times ^ | April 22, 2011 | Bill O'Reilly

With President Barack Obama now in full campaign mode, the question becomes: Can he win re-election despite some misgivings from the vast majority of the American people?

A new Marist College-McClatchy poll delivers this bad news to the president: Sixty-four percent of Americans now think the country is moving in the wrong direction, while just 31 percent believe the USA is on the right track. That is the highest "wrong direction" number since November of 2007, when the country was heading into a deep recession.

In normal times, that kind of poll number would be catastrophic for a president about to enter the re-election season. But these are not normal times. A new Washington Post/ABC News poll says that despite the country's dour mood, Obama would still beat every single Republican who's showed any interest in running. Mitt Romney provides the closest challenge, but he still loses in the survey, 49 percent to 45 percent.

Of course, polls are just snapshots in time, and the truth is that anything could happen in the election of 2012.

The president's main problem is the economy, including the massive debt his administration is running up. Few believe that Obama is serious about cutting entitlement spending, and with gas prices exploding, the folks are getting hammered. This week, the president blamed speculators for the oil debacle, and he's right. But what's he going to do about it?

Flogging the "tax_the rich" mantra is not going to work this time. With Standard and Poor's warning that America's Triple-A bond rating may be in jeopardy, the spending madness must be arrested, or our entire way of life will be threatened. Once U.S. bonds are downgraded, it will become much more expensive to borrow the trillions needed to fund the entitlement society that Democrats, including Obama, extol....

“Full campaign mode”?? Doing what exactly? He hasn’t done anything other than scam people out of $30,000 bucks for dinner. BTW, just what IS his campaign slogan going to be? This should be interesting: “Change - less change in your pocket”

I just have to ask.
“In normal times, that kind of poll number would be catastrophic”
Almost every article writing about a poll seems to have that language. Is it me? Am i imagining it? If i’m right then has a journalist ever seen normal times?

What O’Reilly and other blabber-mouths in the media constantly refuse to disclose is that the economy really took a downturn after the election of ‘06.

That’s when the Dems took control of the House and Senate with enough votes to override a Bush veto on anything. The excessive spending progressed from there. Yet, they continue to blame Bush for putting the US in the terrible economic situation we face now.

Bush made mistakes during his terms. No child left behind, (in partnership with a Kennedy!)and the attempt to grant amnesty to illegals (along with McCain) are just a couple of his screw-ups!

However, Bush wasn’t destroying the economy of the US until the Dems took control of Congress and started their agressive social welfare programs. ...I’ll shut up now.

Is this the earliest that a sitting President has started his own formal re-election campaign? At 19 months, it is an indictment about his failures and the need to protect his base but still it worries me that we could end up with a Bob Dole type as a compromise losing candidate. Yech!

Gee... there are and have been many polls showing anyone could be obama... wonder why the dim operative named o’reilly didn’t mention that? I despise bill almost as much as I despise that kenyan MF’er.
