Tea party affair could doom GOP (More free advice from the Left)
The Politico ^ | April 4, 2011 | Michael A. Cohen

It’s not unusual for Republican presidential aspirants to shore up their conservative credentials by pledging to cut taxes, slash spending or increase defense funding. This year, however, the way to the hearts of GOP primary voters seems to be through the Quran.

Already, more than a half-dozen GOP hopefuls have publicly warned about the imposition of Islamic law, Shariah, in America. Herman Cain, the only Republican to have formally announced his candidacy, is vowing not to appoint Muslims to his Cabinet.

This is the increasingly radicalized GOP — the 2011 version. The GOP’s most extreme wing, the tea party, is setting the party’s political direction not just in Congress, but on the presidential campaign trail.

The further right Republican presidential hopefuls move, as the political truism goes, the harder it will be for the party’s eventual nominee to craft a political appeal that will attract independent voters at the center — where elections are won. In their efforts to capture the hearts of tea party followers, Republicans may be sowing the seeds of their own 2012 demise.

Indeed, as overtly conservative as the Republican Party has become in recent years, the tea party is pushing the GOP further to the right.

The movement’s members hold views far more radical than those of other conservatives. For example, 71 percent think President Barack Obama is “destroying the country,” versus 6 percent of non-tea party conservatives, according to recent polling by the University of Washington. Three-quarters of self-identified tea partiers surveyed believe the president’s policies are moving the country toward “socialism,” as opposed to 40 percent of “mainstream conservatives.” And tea partiers are more likely to believe that Obama was not born in America and is a practicing Muslim....

I’ve always been skeptical as to whether or not taking over the house would be good for the country. Now the left wing media will blame everything on the GOP and we all know just how gullible most voters are.

I wonder if it wouldn’t be best to just let them have it all, including a huge majority in congress, and watch them take us to the point where a majority of the people will see the democrat party for what they really are and start all over. Because, truthfully, I’m not so sure that it’s not too late. I’d hate to see conservatives take the blame for the destruction of this country. And if conservatives are in charge, that’s exactly what will happen.

I love it . . . they’re as afraid of the Tea Party as they are of Sarah Palin! Go on, dummycrats, tell us for whom we should vote . . . Can’t wait to get another McLame or Dole-ish character . . . how about central casting’s Romney?

What this article fails to realize is the voters will have a choice either an extreme leftist or a real conservative. The real conservative will win because Obama can’t hide from his record this time around.

Taxation rates must remain consistent presently to give some external perception of fiscal sanity...

The Tea Party must excise the GOP zit off its a$$, disassociate, and become a viable third party.

It would be nice if this could be politically pulled off before the collapse of the economy, but highly unlikely.

Things will reconcile as per usual, after total collapse... Or war.

The rats have already let us now who it is that they fear the most and her name is, Sarah 'Drill, Baby, Drill' Palin.

As long as Barry keeps his choke hold on American energy and prices continue to 'skyrocket', just like he wants, Sarah will look better and better to the fed up masses.

‘Could doom GOP’. Are they kidding? It was doomed until the tea party reinvigorated it.

Disagree; I think they’re *more* afraid of the people being awake & alert than any single political figure.

Can we all stop listening to the left giving us free advice? You know the people who look at us as enemies (teabaggers, bible clingers, gun nuts, constitution worshippers, haters)?

It’s like listening to Stalin’s free advice on how we should run America. Really think they have our best interest at heart? Really?

Lying fockers is what they are. I have met the fockers, and they are democrats.

No doubt, but these two things, Tea Party and Palin, just stick in their grimy little paws . . . therefore, it’s ok to brand us as Nazis and Palin as a bimbo. If they do that loudly enough and long enough, some of it will stick.

I know two people (both independent/somewhat conservative Dems) who told me that if John McCain ran, they would vote GOP in 08. Both voted Mister Obama, and the reason they both gave was GW Bush.

A centrist candidate would lose the indy vote, again.

"This is the increasingly radicalized GOP -"

Increasingly radicalized GOP...IOW, pro-American.

Since the lies and naive "humanity"of those who were considered anti-American radicals in the sixties are now mainstream in government and media, to be called "radical" by them is a compliment because it in fact means pro-American.
