I for one am glad to see it no matter who is instigating it because Romney is a Trojan horse, bad news for the GOP and the USA, and if he gets hit in your "circular firing squad," GOOD. He's the guy I'm aiming at. He's the biggest danger facing the GOP right now, in my opinion.
I know that most of us on Free Repubic hold with Jim Robinson in our low opinion of Romney, which skews my vision of reality. I am shocked by how many Republicans and conservatives I know, who are not FReepers, who are ignorant about Romney; they'd vote for him with full faith and confidence by the SOLE "virtue" that he is registered as a Republican. He's handsome, has a ton of dough and an Ivy league education, and has worked as an executive in American industry so has (IMO, undeserved) "bona fides" as a free market guy. Naive people think these things are sufficient qualifications.
But he's DANGEROUS to the GOP. Huck isn't, Newt isn't, but Romney? He's so picture-perfect and lyrically sings the words that make conservatives' hearts soar, and I quote: "The invisible hand of the free market is more powerful than the lumbering machinery of the government." Phrases like "conservative principle" and "laws that let the economy work" ... "free enterprise system" ..."We need to advance a conservative plan based on free choice, personal responsibility, and private medicine, one that doesn't add massive new Federal spending" ... "fundamental right of life, of property, of property, of religious freedom"....
... roll off his tongue and warm hearts, those words coming as they are from a tall, handsome man who looks like a very good Daddy.
Sadly, few people listen to his ugly details, his management-intensive interference in the rights and lives of American citizens, that prove that the principles anchoring those phrases soar over his head. He thinks government has the solution.
The man (or woman) that says and understands why people will get along better, more peacefully, and more prosperously without government intrusion and THAT is the solution ... is the salvation the GOP. Rush is right on this one: conservatism works everytime it's tried.
Romney is dangerous because he's a totally unprincipled fraud -- not maliciously, just animal-like. What can I say.
Regardless of the Palin vs Romney drama that is created here. They are on the same side. They are friends, not foes. They, at least, seem to know who the real enemy is. I see both of them acting like grown ups concentrating hard on raising money for conservatives across the country in an attempt to help elect conservatives and defeat dems in November. Palin and Romney fans would be better off if they acted more like Sarah and Mitt.
