Andrew Sullivan sure has a lot of fairweather friends on FR. He was getting much praise here when he supported the failed Iraq war.Iraq is far from being a failed war. It is the central front in the war on terrorism against the United States.
It is precisely Ron Paul's stance on Iraq that disqualifies him from ever becoming POTUS. He is wrong on the number on issue before our country.
If the war there fails, it will be because it was not prosecuted long enough and hard enough. It will also not be long before we have to fight it here. At that point, the Democrats in Congress and Republicans like Ron Paul will have the blood of American civilians on their hands.

This isn't a good argument, because it's totally speculative, and if it's true today, it's always true. If we quit after 4 years, you can always say that we should have stayed for 5. If we quit after 9 years, we should have stayed 10. If we quit after 49 years, we should have stayed 50.
If this war requires everything we've got, why isn't there a draft?
It will also not be long before we have to fight it here.
The insurgents and terrorists can hide in Iraq because they are hiding among their own people. We've busted a few "terrorist" cells here in the US and they were total jokes -- crazy people with crazy schemes and they didn't even get out of the starting gate. The idea that we'll be battling Islamic extremists in the streets of Anytown USA is hilarious. Where are they going to set up their base? In the alley behind the Wal*Mart?
"The terrorists" were in Afghanistan; Saddam Hussein wasn't a threat to the US and Ron Paul said so. Now that he's been proven right, he's being attacked by a bunch of crybabies who can't admit that they were wrong. The War on Terror should be a WAR ON TERROR, not something to prop up the egos of people who were wrong 4 years ago.
Don't you think that Bush has mobilized a solid effort to keep terrorists from attacking us here? You want to see it end in 2008? Well, then keep supporting the increasingly pointless military effort in Iraq and make certain the Democrats control the entire government in 2008 -- probably for another 8 years or more.
