"A hearing before the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee scheduled for Tuesday was canceled after the sponsor of the bill to be discussed failed to appear. The proposed legislation by Republican Rep. Rob Thompson of Manchester would have increased penalties for repeat drunk-driving offenders. With four former police officers on the House Committee, Thompson's bill stood a good chance of being approved, but his failure to appear may have spelled its demise, a committee member said. The Corner has learned that Thompson is a repeat offender when it comes to not showing up for hearings."
