A combination of 12 guage slugs and a 44 mag pistol was used on the bear that attacked my daughters outing at Fort Richardson. I think they shot the young male at least six times which only SLOWED his attack. They had to shoot him a few more times to kill him. He had been seen at least 1/4 miles away the first time and was stalking them.

A lot of people have been killed by adrenalin pumped up technically "dead" bears.

Sorry to hear about the attack on your daughters, hope nobody got hurt before they got the bear. Were they out on the paved trail on the highway or back in the woods? My wife said she saw a black bear coming out of the woods while driving back to the valley one day, I've never seen one there. Up till now I have kept my .44 in my backpack (not smart I know) but I plan to keep it in my holster now and add a 12g pump in future. Was the bear on Ft Rich a black or brown?
