200 posts later I see you are still unable to answer two simple, direct questions. Could it be because the correct and proper answers would show you to be a hypocrite who is running on nothing but emotion and not reason and logic?

What is selfish and rude is you, wanting to put your desire to eat or drink in SOMEONE ELSE'S property, above the rights of the property owner and his desires to run his business as he sees fit.

Who the hell are you to tell someone how to run their business? Who do you think you are?

YOU ARE FREE TO STAY AT HOME, GO TO ANOTHER ESTABLISHMENT, OR START YOUR OWN, but NOT to tell someone how to run their own place!!!

that's right. I'm running on emotion. So that makes me a hypocrite. sorry, don't see the connection. I never said I was a conservative to the point of being obnoxious, or should I say noxious. If you don't like your precious right to be rude trampled upon, organize and vote out anti-smoke pols. Again, I fear your going to find the sledding rough.

Well, I don't know what "back street" bars and/or restaurants some go to, but with the huge smoker eaters installed now, you have to LOOK to see if anyone is smoking.

The huge smoke eaters cut the smoke right out of the air. Even up here in northern Maine, we notice a BIG difference with the smoke eaters. I love them!

Thank you very much.

We will continue to work to change this ill-conceived and dangerous law. However, with the way things are done in Albany, it could take awhile

I have no right, and have never once claimed a right to smoke in restaurants or bars. And you can not find a single post by me saying I have said right. But, if I was the owner of an establishment I would have the property rights to determine if smoking was allowed or banned on my property.

There is no difference between the government forcing a smoking ban on property owners and forcing property owners to allow smoking.

You allow your emotions to cause you to support the destruction of property rights, destruction of jobs, and destruction of peoples lifes work. You have no problem striping your neighbor of their rights. Hopefully your neighbor is different and will fight for your rights when they come under attack. Because with facists like you around, yours too will come under attack soon enough

Imagine being a member of the waitstaff in the 'smoking section'...what a joy that must have been...NOT!

As just about any waiter or ex-waiter will tell you, the smoking section is where the money is.

I really wish you a great deal of luck.

I no longer work in the hospitality industry, but Ihave waited my fair share of tables and mixed my share of drinks.

And although I am now in Virginia, I continue to be actively involved with the bar and restaurant owners fighting to overturn the Delaware smoking ban. And just like albany, the wheels turn VERY slowly in Dover.

I truly do understand how devastating these bans are to your industry, but I would venture to say the losses in Delaware are comparable to those in NY, although NY is far larger. Why it particularly hits hard in Delaware is the small size of the state. The absolute maximum distance to another state that is more smoker-friendly is 35 miles. In most cases it is far closer.

The bars in Maryland along the statelines absolutely love the DE ban, because they seen their number jump by as much as 50% in some instances. Don't get me wrong, the MD owners sympathize with their DE counterparts, but they will have proof that bans hurt to fight any attempt in Annapolis.

And the PA and NJ owners will also have the same proof, not just from DE, but from NY as well, as I understand much business is going that route from NY as well.

Exactly.

These government control freak nannies also don't seem to grasp the concept that if you are allowed to advertise for and only hire non-smokers, you are equally allowed to do the same with smokers.

There is currently a 29-21 split among the 50 states regarding this issue, off the top of my head, I can't remember which way the split goes, so I will limit my comments to the one state where I have experience and first-hand knowlege and that is Delaware.

It's perfectly legal to advertise for non-smokers for job opennings and the gnatzies have fought tooth and nail to keep that from being changed. Yet when you explain that it then makes it perfectly legal to advertise for smokers only, they get their panties all in a wad claiming it is unfair to keep out the majority of the population from applying for a particular job.

My attitude then is the law should be changed so that an employee's smoking status has no bearing upon eligiblity for a position. They ssy no, they should have the right to only hire non-smokers, but a bar or a restaurant or any other business should not have the right to hire only smokers, because that is discriminatory.

I'm not making this up, these are actually things said by the antis when there was legislation pending in DE to eliminate just that particular practice. They claimed it was a "smoker's rights bill" when one of the proposals didn't even mention the word. That's how twisted they are.

There is no logic to their arguements, it is all based upon emotion, abused science, hysteria and massive amounts of money for propaganda campaigns.

And hater of property rights.

I have no clue how people who seem to be otherwise intelligent are willing to abrogate the property rights of others to suit their selfish purposes, yet claim to be conservative.

It makes no sense to me.
