CA: Budget reckoning: A responsible plan looks to the future

The $38 billion California deficit is unprecedented. If we laid off every state worker, and closed every prison, University of California and California State University campus, and completely eliminated state support for health insurance for the working poor, still there would be a $10 billion shortfall. Without a few Republican votes, a budget cannot be passed, which makes their "no new taxes" pledge the California road map to Newt Gingrich's federal train wreck in 1995.

I will not vote to continue the same pattern that got us into this mess. That is my bottom line.

That's what they all say. What a crock of s**t. Once a tax and spend liberal, always a tax and spend liberal.

Those who have attended USC have had their compassion toward UCLA (or Notre Dame, for that matter) genetically removed. It's just one of those things.

I keep hearing this from the Democrats, but I don't believe it

It's probably true because it's a relatively small number. You notice she doesn't mention the real reason for the shortfall, or where the expenditures really go: K-8 schools and medical care.

At $10/hr (which would be a high wage), the great unmentionables would avg $20k/year. Since they seem to have around 4 kids apiece, and at an avg cost of $6k/year to edumicate them, we're already upside down to the tune of $4k/family if the entire $20k was paid-in as taxes. In reality, of course, they pay little if no tax, and receive a hugely disporportionate share of benefits.

Not even a word about how illegal aliens are draining off moneys

Not surprising.

Although almost 30% of California's total population, 38% of it's K-12 school population and 45% of it's criminal population is a consequence of 50 years of illegal immigration (the vast majority from Mexico) there is little than can be practically done about the immediate problem since the vast majority of these people are now US citizens.

I just emailed her office, so maybe she will send me a list of the five republicans who are contemplating political suicide. I politely ask for the 5 Republicans who are working on the State budget with her so I may let them know my opinion. Hope she responds.

Darn, I was just about to email her this entire thread as a response to how her position is "playing" out there.

Anybody know how many State legislators are up for reelection in 04? We should get people to run against these idiots informed with the details of our friend Tom McClintock, I think candidates that illustrate his fiscal points can beat any of these clueless Democrates. Hell, WE could run.
