Well, the religious right generally opposes squandering (even more) billions of your tax dollars on subsidizing treatments for buggery diseases to delay the consequences of their lifestyle.
That's one of the basic tenets of liberalism - some group has been "victimized" and is therefore entitled to a handout, and anyone who opposes that handout must hate them.
