Someone on this board (I can't remember who) suggested that the VENONA information should have been made public very early on, possibly during the Rosenberg trial. It might have (a) derailed the Left's efforts to scream that the Rosenbergs (and Hiss, et cetera) were framed, and (b) derailed the more BS-filled endeavours by Joseph McCarthy.

The Venona info. was gained only after the breakup of USSR.
When the Venona Papers became public, the left still maintained the innocence of the Rosenbergs in the face of proof to the contrary. You know the left can't face the truth if it disagrees with their agenda.
