A big part of the reason you find more boys than girls being abused by priests is that girls are not left alone in the company of priests, generally. Altar BOYS are. I went to Catholic school.. and I don't recall ever being in a priest's company alone.
Basically, children are molested when there is OPPORTUNITY. When you create a situation with a lot of opportunity (adult men with a lot of unsupervised time with young boys), don't be surprised when molestations occur. This is exactly why most molestations happen at the hands of family and close family friends.
