I understand that in 1979 a hepatitis B vaccine was offered to the gay community in San Francisco. 80% of those receiving it later got AIDS (much greater than the members of AIDS community NOT receiving the vaccine).
That was an experimental vaccine, not the Hep B vaccine in use today.
Of course, you're right to be cautious about vaccines in general.
