The high court said the Surrey School Board "violated the principles of secularism and tolerance" in Section 76 of British Columbia's School Act, which mandates a "secular education." "Instead of proceeding on the basis of respect for all types of families," said the court, "the board proceeded on an exclusionary philosophy, acting on the concern of certain parents about the morality of same-sex relationships, without considering the interest of same-sex parented families and the children who belong to them in receiving equal recognition and respect in the school system."

Here is an excellent refutation of the basis of this decision, written December 1998: Court Misunderstands the Meaning of "Secular" written by Canada's private Centre for Cultural Renewal

"I wanted to be... a lumberjack!

"Leaping from tree to tree, as they float down the mighty rivers of British Columbia. The Giant Redwood. The Larch. The Fir! The mighty Scots Pine! The lofty flowering Cherry! The plucky little Apsen! The limping Roo tree of Nigeria. The towering Wattle of Aldershot! The Maidenhead Weeping Water Plant! The naughty Leicestershire Flashing Oak! The flatulent Elm of West Ruislip! The Quercus Maximus Bamber Gascoigni! The Epigillus! The Barter Hughius Greenus!

"With my best gal by my side, we'd sing! Sing! Sing!...

"I'm a lumberjack
"And I'm okay,
"I sleep all night
"And I work all day."

"He's a lumberjack
"And he's okay,
"He sleeps all night
"And he works all day."

"I cut down trees,
"I eat my lunch,
"I go to the lavatory,
"On Wednesdays I go shopping,
"And have buttered scones for tea."

"He cuts down trees,
"He eats his lunch,
"He goes to the lavatory,
"On Wednesdays he goes shopping,
And has buttered scones for tea."

"He's a lumberjack
"And he's okay,
"He sleeps all night
"And he works all day."

"I cut down trees,
"I skip and jump,
"I like to press wild flowers,
"I put on women's clothing,
"And hang around in bars."

"He cuts down trees,
"He skips and jumps,
"He likes to press wild flowers,
"He puts on women's clothing,
"And hangs around in bars?"

"He's a lumberjack
"And he's okay,
"He sleeps all night
"And he works all day."

"I cut down trees,
"I wear high heels,
"Suspendies and a bra,
"I wish I'd been a girlie,
"Just like my dear pappa."

"He cuts down trees,
"He wears high heels?
"Suspendies...and a bra..?"

"(What's this? Wants to be a *girlie*? Oh, My! And I thought you were so rugged! Poofter!)"

"...He's a lumberjack
"And he's okay,
"He sleeps all night
"And he works all day.

"He's a lumberjack...
"And he's OKAYYYYYY...
"He sleeps all night...
"And he works all dayyyyyy...."

"Further, why is everyone so thoroughly interested in teaching kids about sex? Why is this necessary?"

In order to make it easier for the government to replace the parents as the teacher of values, morals and ethics. A socialistic necessity for a homogenized and obedient society.

Remove the steps to the moral high ground at an early age and eventually everyone ends up playing in the mud at the bottom of the hill. . . like a pit full of slithering and groping snakes. Descriptive of some governments. Is that what we want for our country?

""Parental views, however important, cannot override the imperative placed upon the British Columbia public schools to mirror the diversity of the community and teach tolerance and understanding of difference.""

An imperative straight from the pits of hell that only a tyrant would dare voice.
