We have to stay focused on what's happening and who we are dealing with. Davis' team will stop at nothing. It's pretty obvious that this whole photo issue was a set up from the beginning.
You can't outslime the master. Just because Simon impetuously walked into this situation doesn't mean he is an idiot, or not fit to govern. It does show, however, that he is not equipped to 'campaign' at this level.
According to the L.A. Times today, Simon's people knew about the photo "earlier this year." But they didn't actually see it until a couple of weeks ago,and that was only a glimpse. The plan "according to campaign sources" was for Simon to bait the hook at the debate, then allow the COPS people to file their complaint with the election commision, while staying out of it himself. But after the debate, reporters figured that he must have a smoking gun stashed somewhere and they pressed him on it. Simon said that he had evidence that Simon had broken the law. The next day, the COPS people released the photo to the media, and the allegation began to unravel immediately. Someone from the Simon campaign rushed to the capitol building and quickly saw that the picture couldn't have been taken where is was supposed to have been taken. But they didn't get word to Simon in time, and he stepped in it deeper with a press conference, only to backtrack almost immediately.
Meanwhile, it's now revealed that Simon has paid COPS and an affiliated consulting firm to the tune of $444,000.
