Paris, California [Why Gray Davis could still lose his bid for re-election]

California Governor Gray Davis signed a bill mandating paid family leave this week, just as a new survey of executives rated the state's "business climate" the worst in the nation. Consider these two more signs that Republican challenger Bill Simon still has a chance to beat Mr. Davis next month.

Thanks for posting. I only wish the WSJ would have also mentioned the long term electrical contracts that the Dimwit signed that will keep the state in hock for years and the 4 million dollar budget surplus that existed when the Dimwit went into office and four years later we have a 24 billion dollar deficit. All the while the state hired 25,000 new government employees and gave the prison guards a 30% pay raise after their union donated over one million dollars to his campaign over the past four years. Gray Davis...the worst governor money can buy! DUMP THE DIMWIT!

Simon cannot win. The GOP should save its money.

The illegal-alien and deceased vote will finish him.

Invest the money somewhere else where a Republican has an iota of a ghost of a wisp of a chance.

This is getting repetitive, so I think I'll repeat myself.

Thank you for your inspiring words, sir boris!

We here in California will take all the negativity you can offer! You know, about how the Democrats are so mean, about how there are so many illegals and so many dead Democrats, how the polling is all so corrupt, about how it's all over, and how Simon can't win...

...and stick it.

Meanwhile, I fully intend to send my mail-in-only-ballot-that-they-intend-to-flush by certified, return receipt mail and wander on down to the County Courthouse to photograph the nice people who promise to count it, and then I think I'll hang around for a while, just to breathe in a little atmosphere.

The recent survey, by Development Counsellors International, found that 57% of 283 executives rated California the worst state in the nation to locate a business.

With no new businesses where are all the illegals going to work? It only takes 1 per leaf blower.

Last in business, dropping from 5th to 6th largest economy, and schools near the bottom. Davis is really doing a job on CA.

I hope Simon uses this in TV ads.

I live in California.

But I also live in Reality.

I live in Santa Cruz. I get all the "reality" I need.

Go ahead. Run away and hide. Cry. Whine. Give up.

You'll get what you deserve.

IMHO, most Californians will NOT vote this year. Turnout will be DISMAL.

Therefore, our job is to:

1 - "Mobilize the base" of Republicans - to let them know that we CAN win this thing, if they will get out and vote, and

2 - Demoralize the borderline Democrats - to get them to stay home in disgust, or vote for a third party.

A handful of hardcore FReeper revolutionaries can REALLY make a difference:
"Dump DAVIS!"
"DumpDAVIS" FReeps are currently scheduled for:
Sunday (9/29) - 6 pm to 8 pm - Kodak Theatre in Hollywood - confirmed
(note NEW times)
Barbra Streisand and Barry Manilow will be raising $4 million for the DNC
theme: "Keep the Hookers in Hollywood, NOT Sacramento"
(Hooker/pimp costumes encouraged, but not required!)

Monday (9/30) - 11 am to noon - Nixon Library in Yorba Linda - confirmed
(note NEW start time)
Bill Simon speech/lunch at noon
theme: "Gray Davis: debate DODGER"
(Bring ANYTHING that says "Dodgers" - hats, posters, uniforms!)

Monday - (10/7) - 10 am to noon - Los Angeles Times building - confirmed
Simon/Davis debate
theme: "Dump DAVIS"
("Dump DAVIS" posters, sanitation worker outfits, dump truck?)

Saturday (10/19) - noon to 4 pm - Capitol building in Sacramento - confirmed
state-wide "DumpDAVIS" FReep in SACRAMENTO!
FReepers from all across Cailfornia will gather on the Capitol Steps
Jim Robinson is scheduled to be there.
Sacramento radio station KTKZ (1380-AM) would like to do a LIVE remote broadcast from the FReep!
theme: "Dump DAVIS"
(possible GIANT dump truck, dumpsters - use your imagination...)

Please FReep-mail me for details, and to get on my list for a SECRET "Dump DAVIS!" FReep - coming soon!

Why is the 10/7 debate at 10am? And if you read the press release the debate is 1pm so which is right? By having the debate in the middle of a weekday are they trying to make sure that as few people as possible watch the debate??? Why not have the debate on Sunday evening????

I respectfully disagree. In most elections when voters are up in arms to get rid of someone like the Dimwit the voters are livid and can't wait to vote. Now the demorats may stay home which is good but the Republicans will be the first at the polls so the independents are the ones that must be encouraged and given an excellent reason to get out and vote!

Timing is everything!

Perhaps the time is the only way they could drag Davis to the debate!

NormsRevenge: "Nice clean cut looking young fella..."

Carry_Okie: "He's gay."

Just one more reason not to live in California -- besides the ones so often mentioned: taxes, earthquakes, immigrants, cost of housing, loonies.

Luckily, the rest of the nation still has standards for elected officials, however low. :)

It takes some doing to turn California into a business bust, considering its climate, resources and tremendous talent base of 35 million people. But the state's politicians have done it by piling ever more regulations and costs on employers. The state's workers' compensation system is out of control, with premiums rising as much as 120% this year. In February, as a payoff to trial lawyers, Mr. Davis signed a bill doubling workers' comp payouts.

This is a GREAT article. Fabulous! It clearly lays out the case for Simon ... and against Davis.

However, some facts are wrong. It says that no Republican has won statewide since 1994. Both Bill Jones and Chuck Quackenbush won statewide in 1998. Just for clarification. You could say that no Republican has won the governor's race since 1994 ... but there has only been one governor's race since then.

Go Simon!
