Very good and thoughtful post, Mike, and you make some excellent points. And I will concede some encouragement by what I have been seeing lately. Not that much though. I think we are running out of patience, and while I understand that things have to be handled diplomatically to a degree, I think we also under the current circumstances need to have a sense of urgency about this problem.

Forget for a moment the Mexican illegals invading our country with every intent of reclaiming a significant portion of our land as their own and focus on the more immediate and ever present problem of people getting here whose only agenda is they want us dead, as many as possible by any means possible, and yet we are still letting people of those countries in in record numbers legally, and of course we now know that for the tidy sum of $10,000 they can (and do) get a coyote escort and blend with the Mexicans. Since 9/11 we have plenty to justify the tightening of the borders to whatever extent deemed necessary, yet it seems that nobody in Congress has any heart for it....or backbone. And I think that is the bottom line. There is a time for diplomacy and a time for security. It is a matter of priorities and our priority right now should be keeping Americans safe, and imposing a police state on the citizenry is not the answer.
